Life with MS
By Allyce Morino
Stephanie of Citrus Heights was diagnosed with MS in 2006 and immediately began building connections to the National MS Society. Already a wife and mother of two at the time of her diagnosis, Stephanie built new friendships and found enjoyable volunteer opportunities through the Northern California Chapter.
Stephanie began learning more about MS through magazines provided by the Society. Stephanie also participates in the classes and programs that the Chapter offers. “The classes and programs offered about specific symptoms and lifestyle changes have been so helpful and interesting.” Stephanie is also connecting with other individuals living with MS through the Society. She is especially close with another woman living with MS, and they exchange mutual suggestions and encouragement. “While I would not wish MS on anyone, it feels good to connect and see that I am not alone. The programs offered by the Society make this possible.”
Stephanie has also participated in several Society events. Stephanie has participated in Walk MS and volunteered at Bike MS: Waves to Wine for the first time in 2013, where she passed out medals to cyclists as they crossed the finish line. Volunteering at Bike MS was an especially moving experience for Stephanie. “Seeing the massive number of supporters cycling for a cure was inspiring and uplifting and filled me with so much belief and hope that one day there will be an end to MS.”
