Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Sponsors Bike MS Colorado

March 22, 2016

DENVER (March 22, 2016) – The Colorado-Wyoming Chapter, National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society has forged a partnership with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield (Anthem) to be the lead sponsor of Bike MS Colorado for the next three years. The two-day, 150-mile ride is slated for June 25 – 26, 2016 and on average has raised $4 million annually for the past four years.  The funds raised support programs and research that benefit more than 100,000 people affected by MS in Colorado and Wyoming.

“Anthem is proud to support the outstanding work of the MS Society and we encourage everyone to sign up and experience this unique and inspiring fundraiser in person,” said Mike Ramseier, president, Anthem in Colorado. “Bike MS is not only an event filled with camaraderie and physical challenge, but it also raises critical funds to learn more about this disease and push for new treatments and programs to help people living with MS,” Ramseier added.

“As a health insurance plan provider, Anthem understands the impact MS has on Coloradans. We greatly appreciate Anthem’s commitment and its generous support of Bike MS Colorado, which is our largest annual fundraising event,” said Kristin Gibbs, executive vice president of development and marketing for the Chapter.

“MS is a disease that affects the central nervous system by disrupting the flow of information from the brain to the body, which impacts mobility. Although the cause and cure of MS remain unknown, great stride have been made. Today there are 12 FDA-approved therapies for MS – where none existed just over two decades ago.  Every mile ridden during Bike MS Colorado supports the vital research that will stop MS in its tracks, restore lost function and end MS forever,” Gibbs emphasized.

Registration is open for Bike MS Colorado: Locally Powered by Anthem, Locally Presented by Point B.  To register or for more information, visit bikeMScolorado.org.

About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide.
