DENVER (Jan. 25, 2016) – The Colorado-Wyoming Chapter, National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society will host its first
Run MS Denver at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2016, ahead of its annual Walk MS Denver. Run MS Denver is the newest addition to the Chapter’s signature fundraising events and will feature a U.S Track and Field certified, chip-timed 5K course around Ferril Lake at Denver City Park. Run MS will precede Walk MS Denver, which takes place at 9 a.m., bringing together 10,000 community members who will walk one or three-miles to end MS.
“MS is a disease that affects the central nervous system, impacting movement and mobility,” said Chapter President Carrie Nolan. “The Chapter holds many popular events each year for walkers, cyclists, hikers and people who enjoy mud obstacle challenges. Adding Run MS Denver provides an opportunity for the running community to join us and move to end MS.
“There are 100,000 people affected by MS in Colorado and Wyoming and our two-state region is home to one of the highest incidences of MS in the nation. In Colorado, one person in 400 lives with MS compared to one person in 750 nationally. Every mile run will help us fund programs and the promising research the will yield more treatments and ultimately a cure,” Nolan continued.
“Coloradans are always generous and very supportive, and in fact, Walk MS Denver has been the Society’s largest walk in the nation for several years and Bike MS Colorado is the Society’s third largest fundraising cycling event in the nation. That says a lot about Coloradans and their commitment to our mission, and we look forward to engaging the running community to help us end MS forever,” Nolan added.
The registration fee for Run MS Denver is $35 through March 31 and $45 April 1 -30. Runners will receive a long-sleeve technical T-shirt, refreshments and a finisher’s gift. A minimum of $50 fundraising is suggested.
