Colorado-Wyoming Chapter, National MS Society to Honor CoBiz Financial’s Marc Spritzer for Philanthropic Leadership

August 21, 2013

DENVER – Marc Spritzer, director of CoBiz Advisors, the business development division within CoBiz Financial, will be honored with the Colorado-Wyoming Chapter, National MS Society’s inaugural Spirit Award for his philanthropic leadership, personal involvement in the community and advocacy for the MS community. The presentation will take place at the Chapter’s MS On the Move Luncheon on September 24 at the Grand Hyatt Denver.

“We are honored to recognize Marc for his outstanding commitment to the community,” said Chapter President Carrie Nolan.  “He is a passionate individual and leader in the Denver community and for the National MS Society.  His dedication to making connections and fostering relationships has benefited our community and the lives of people living with MS,” Nolan added.

Spritzer has been involved in the financial services industry for more than 23 years and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Institute’s Denver Chapter.  A Colorado native, he is dedicated to enhancing the community, serving as a founding member of Social Venture Partners Denver and the Colorado Advanced Manufacturing Alliance (CAMA).

He currently serves on the boards for The Denver Health Foundation’s Level 1 Society, the Downtown Denver Partnership, the Jewish Community Foundation and CAMA.  Spritzer is the immediate past chair of the Economic Development Council for the Partnership and the investment committee for the Jewish Community Foundation. He is also an active member of the Partnership’s Finance Committee and the co-chair of the membership committee of CAMA.

During the luncheon, Sonoma’s Ronda Giangreco, author of “The Gathering Table: Defying Multiple Sclerosis with a Year of Pasta, Wine & Friends,” will provide keynote remarks.   On July 26, 2008 Giangreco was a healthy woman just back from a cooking school trip to Italy and busy planning her next big dinner party. One day later she was a disabled woman - the diagnosis - sudden onset MS.  Giangreco will share how she combined food, wine and friends to address her MS challenge.

MS is a disease that affects the central nervous system by disrupting the flow of information from the brain to the body.

Symptoms vary by person depending on where MS damages the spinal cord or brain and can impair vision, create cognition issues and rob people of movement.  Colorado and Wyoming have one of the highest incidences of MS in the nation and every dollar raised at the luncheon supports programs and research that benefit more than 100,000 people affected by MS in the Chapter’s region.

Tickets are available now - $125 per person,  $65 for young professionals (under 35) and $1250 per table of 10.   To register visit www.blacktiecolorado.com/rsvp and enter event code MSC924 or call 303-698-5446.

About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide.
