Sam’s Club Walk MS Denver Slated for May 3

April 21, 2014

DENVER – More than 10,000 walkers from throughout Metro Denver step out to raise over $1 million to support programs and research to research stop MS, restore function lost to MS and end MS forever at the Colorado-Wyoming Chapter, National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society’s Sam’s Club Walk MS Denver.  The inspirational annual event takes place on Saturday May 3 at Denver City Park.

Walk MS Denver features one- and three-mile accessible route options around the lakes at Denver City Park. Walkers are invited to pick up an official Walk MS wristband at any participating Metro Denver Toyota dealership April 1 – May 2.  Toyota will donate $10,000 to the Chapter by adding $50 per person to the fundraising total of the first 200 Walk MS Denver participants who show their wristband at Toyota’s booth event day. An activity area for kids, entertainment and refreshments round out the festivities.

“In 2013 more than 16,000 people participated in the Chapter’s 12 Walk MS events held throughout Colorado and Wyoming raising more than $1.8 million dollars to support programs and research that benefit more than 100,000 people affected by MS in Colorado and Wyoming,” said Kristin Gibbs, vice president of development.

“We are grateful to community members for their continued strong support of the Chapter’s work and the MS community.  We wouldn’t have 10 FDA-approved treatments available today without the generous support and commitment of community members and sponsors such as Sam’s Club. Every step taken at Walk MS events move us closer to more treatments and a world free of MS,” Gibbs emphasized.

Registration is free and the Chapter suggests participants raise a minimum of $50.  Event day registration and activities start at 7:30 a.m.

About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide.
