National MS Society team manager Michael Branda, of Newington, poses with Jenifer and Don Walsh, of Cheshire, at the 11th Annual Team Jenifer ?Beer Tasting held Friday, March 11 at Lane Construction Company in Cheshire. Since her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis more than 20 years ago, Jenifer and her husband Don have teamed up with the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, to raise funds for the battle against MS. Funds raised through the annual beer tasting are donated through the couple’s Walk MS fundraising team, Team Jenifer. This year the event raised $10,000.

For several years the Walsh’s walk team has been ranked among the top fundraising teams in the state. In 2015, Team Jenifer raised $16,810 at the Cheshire site. Jenifer’s husband, Don, was one of the top fundraisers in the state, bringing in $14,355. This year, the team will participate in Walk MS in Cheshire Sunday, April 17.

More than 6,500 Connecticut residents, like Jenifer Walsh, live with the effects of multiple sclerosis, a disease affecting the central nervous system. The cause is unknown and there currently is no cure. Funds raised through chapter events, such as Walk MS ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure and the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the Connecticut Chapter to residents diagnosed with MS.

“Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable and life altering disease,” said Jenifer Walsh, whose MS has progressed to affect her balance and gait. “My MS affects everyone in my family every day. Regardless, we are defiant and are doing all we can to move science forward in the quest for a cure.”

About the Connecticut-Rhode Island Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society

The Connecticut Chapter strives to provide knowledge and assistance to help people with MS and their families maintain the highest possible quality of life. These goals are achieved through vital national and local programs.

About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide.
