    Adapting: Financial Planning for a Life with MS (.pdf)

    Addresses financial organization, planning, insurance options, employment concerns, and benefit issues important to people with MS and their families; provides information for the future and to meet financial challenges that often accompany life with MS. 72-pages. (This guide is a collaboration of the National Endowment for Financial Education, the National MS Society, and Paralyzed Veterans of America.)*published prior to the enactment of the ACA.

    This guide is intended to help people with multiple sclerosis engage in self advocacy to better understand and guide their medical care, and, as necessary, manage their long-term care

    Care Management

    The chapter provides limited assistance for a care manager (social worker or nurse) to help locate and coordinate community resources and benefits for individuals and families facing numerous challenges from MS.

  5. IN PERSON Legal

    Legal Referral

    If you have questions about a legal issue involving MS, the chapter may be able to help by providing a legal referral. After conducting an assessment over the phone, the chapter may direct you to some helpful community resources or make a referral to an attorney who is experienced and knowledgeable about MS and disability issues. The attorney may be able to provide a pro-bono consult.

  6. IN PERSON Long-Term Care

    Friendly Visitors

    The Friendly Visitors Program pairs trained volunteers with nursing home residents with MS for companionship and emotional support. Visitors and residents are matched based on similar interests, hobbies, or desires. Participants are encouraged to take part in mutually enjoyable activities, such as reading, arts and crafts, games, or other pastimes. Visitors are not expected to provide health care or transportation services. They are there to offer support and friendship.

    Education programs for professionals in assisted living and nursing centers, offered by National MS Society staff.
