    Receive free 30-minute legal consultations from volunteer attorneys specializing in various aspects of disability law - disability benefits including Social Security and private disability, estate planning, employment law, and domestic/family law.

    Working with MS Self-Help Group (Rockville)

    This group for individuals living and working (employed, seeking to return to work, or exploring how long to remain working) with the symptoms and diagnosis of MS offers solution-focused positive self-help.

    Care Management

    The chapter provides limited assistance for a care manager (social worker or nurse) to help locate and coordinate community resources and benefits for individuals and families facing numerous challenges from MS.

  4. IN PERSON Financial Planning

    Financial Education Partners Program

    It’s never too early to begin planning financially for the future – evaluating your income, assets, debts, benefits, and other resources is essential to being well-prepared for a future with MS. This program provides pro bono financial planning and education to individuals with special health or financial circumstances.

  5. IN PERSON Long-Term Care

    Friendly Visitors

    The Friendly Visitors Program pairs trained volunteers with nursing home residents with MS for companionship and emotional support. Visitors and residents are matched based on similar interests, hobbies, or desires. Participants are encouraged to take part in mutually enjoyable activities, such as reading, arts and crafts, games, or other pastimes. Visitors are not expected to provide health care or transportation services. They are there to offer support and friendship.

    In-service trainings at long term care facilities

    Education programs for professionals in assisted living and nursing centers, offered by National MS Society staff.

  7. IN PERSON Employment

    In-service trainings for employers on disability employment issues

    Diversity awareness training for employer managers and HR professionals on MS, employment concerns of individuals with adult-onset conditions and hidden disabilities.

  8. IN PERSON Employment

    In-service trainings for vocational rehabilitation staff

    To strengthen relationship with state VR agencies, in-service opportunities available to educate vocational rehabiltation counselors on MS, employment concerns of people with MS and adult-onset and/or hidden disabilities, and services/resources available from the NMSS.

  9. IN PERSON Legal

    Legal Referral

    If you have questions about a legal issue involving MS, the chapter may be able to help by providing a legal referral. After conducting an assessment over the phone, the chapter may direct you to some helpful community resources or make a referral to an attorney who is experienced and knowledgeable about MS and disability issues. The attorney may be able to provide a pro-bono consult.

  10. IN PERSON Employment

    Operation Job Match

    Operation Job Match (OJM) is the chapter’s employment initiative serving people who live with MS as well as people who live with other adult-onset physical disabilities. The objective of OJM is to enable people with disabilities to make career decisions based on accurate information. We can help you make decisions about returning to the workforce, retaining your current employment, or moving on to another job or career.
