Event Volunteers

We depend on hundreds of volunteers to help with our fundraising events. Volunteers are needed to host rest stops, drive support vehicles, help with registration, cheer on our participants, and more. We also need administrative help in our office before and after each event.

Planning and Leadership

Volunteers help the chapter design and implement its programs and services for people affected by MS. Please call the chapter at 202-296-5363 for more information about these leadership committees.
  • The Chapter Programs Committee works with chapter staff to develop, execute, and evaluate programs and services. Members of the CPC, including consumers and health care and community professionals, make recommendations based on their knowledge of MS, the clients served by the chapter, and the chapter’s resources.
  • The Clinical Advisory Committee is a group of neurologists, nurses, and other health care professionals who oversee the chapter’s medically related programs and advise on topics relating to the clinical care of people with MS. CAC members also act as chapter spokespersons on medical topics.
  • The Business Advisory Committee is a group of human resources professionals who report to the chapter on labor market trends, provide direct job seeking skills assessments to clients, and present at educational programs.
  • The Legal Advisory Committee members are attorneys who specialize in various disability issues. They offer legal advice to clients and screen cases.

Events Committees

Chapter committees help organize and develop the chapter’s fundraising events, like Walk MS, Bike MS, and Challenge Walk MS. Committee members may coordinate event logistics, secure sponsorship, or mentor participants. For more information, please call the Chapter at 202-296-5363.

Board of Trustees

The National Capital Chapter’s Board of Trustees is a group of local business and community leaders who are committed to ending MS and strengthening the chapter. View a current list of our Board members.

Pro Bono Opportunities

Are you a legal or financial professional? A budding graphic designer? A talented writer? We welcome individuals who would like to do pro bono work with the Chapter. Contact us at 202-296-5363 or VolunteerDC@nmss.org to learn more about using your professional skills to help end MS.

Programs & Services

Provide support to someone living with MS. Volunteers are the backbone of many of the National Capital Chapter’s local outreach programs. Call 202-296-5363 to learn more.
  • Peer Connections: There are a number of ways to become involved and support others living with MS. Program participants share experiences, perspectives, and resources through telephone and/or email connection.
  • Friendly Visitors volunteers visit on a monthly basis local individuals living with MS and residing in nursing homes. Volunteers will be matched with residents based on similar interests or hobbies and will receive comprehensive training.
  • Family and Children’s Program Volunteer: Interested in volunteering with the National Capital Chapter to support families affected by MS? The chapter is looking for volunteers interested in providing day-of support at our Family Day and Kidventure programs (recreational activities for kids and teens who have a parent living with MS) throughout the year. Weekend and/or evening availability is required.

Community Involvement

Are you a member of a church or synagogue outreach group or a civic organization like Kiwanis, Rotary, and Lions clubs, Junior League or Jaycees?

Many community and civic organizations donate time and financial support to the National Capital Chapter. We can answer your questions and may be able to send a National MS Society representative to speak to your organization. Your group can make a difference in the lives of the many thousands of people affected by MS.
