Intern Position

Title: Advocacy Intern
 
Immediate Supervisor: Senior Manager, Advocacy and Programs
 
Classification: Intern (non-paid)
 
Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Advocacy and Programs, the Intern has responsibility for researching advocacy issues, data entry/management related to advocacy, managing logistics for the Legislative Action Days (LAD) in Nebraska and Kansas, and some minor logistics for chapter’s involvement with Public Policy Conference in Washington, DC.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Learn status of MS Society advocacy programs, Government Relations Committees (GRC) and data management system for our chapter.
  • Schedule appointments for small groups of volunteer activists to meet with legislators for Kansas and Nebraska Legislative Action Days and for Public Policy Conference in Washington, DC.
  • Following a program event timeline, coordinate logistics for NE and KS Legislative Action Days, including location, meal, transportation, speakers, budget, etc.
  • Attend GRC meetings (teleconference available) and KS Lobby Day in Topeka.
  • Enter information from LAD advocacy efforts into existing tracking tools and our data management system.
  • Team Player – Works cooperatively and effectively within the office to assist the MS Society in achieving its mission.  Demonstrates initiative, enthusiasm, willingness and works collaboratively with staff and volunteers to achieve the overall goals and objectives.
Job Requirements:
  • Pursuing a degree in Public Policy, Health or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to effectively work on many complex projects simultaneously. Ability to prioritize.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, detail-oriented and able to work independently.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have own means of transportation and be willing to travel locally, if needed.
Hours:
  • Flexible schedule available
  • Must  work minimum of 15 hours per week
