About This Issue

Executive Order 530 Transportation /Para Transit Reform – Many people with MS rely on accessible transportation known as The MBTA Ride. On April 6, 2011 Governor Patrick signed Executive Order 530 which established a commission that examined and provided recommendations to improve and reform community, social service and Para transit (The Ride) transportation services. Linda Guiod, Executive Vice President of Chapter Programs, Services and Advocacy, was sworn in as a member of this commission.

A final report from this commission was issued in July 2012. The Statewide Coordinating Council on Community Transportation (SCCCT) was then formed to develop an operating plan to implement the Para transit recommendations statewide.  The first SCCCT meeting was on September 23, 2013. SCCCT’s first step is to create Regional Coordinating Councils (RRC). There is an opportunity for GRC members and MS activists to participate on these councils.

Current Status: SCCCT is working on implementing recommendations of 530 Report and forming RCCs.
