A Comprehensive Fall Prevention Program for People who Experience Moderate Walking Challenges

A new eight-week fall prevention program designed for people living with MS who use a walker, crutches or a scooter (but are still able to walk a short distance) and may be at risk for falling.
Discussion, exercise, and group and individual activities will help participants learn about: fall risks, tips and strategies to reduce risk for falling, and exercises to enhance balance and safety. A supportive group atmosphere and expert instructors in the field of rehabilitation, health and wellness will help each participant develop a personal plan to maximize safety.
Through this course, participants will:
Increase awareness of the risk factors that contribute to falls.
Identify strategies to prevent falls
Develop a home fitness plan to address balance, endurance, and strength
Increase their confidence in managing falls if they do occur.
Identify additional community resources
Eligibility: Person with MS who is at risk of falls and the most likely to benefit from the program; those experiencing moderate mobility impairment, significant walking challenges, utilizing a mobility device such as a cane, walker or wheelchair/scooter, but are capable of independently transferring, standing and walking a few steps or short distances.
