Application deadline: September 1

For an application and consent forms call 800-344-4867, option 2, ext 87127 or email Amber.Stalker@nmss.org

A new eight-week fall prevention program designed for people living with MS who use a walker, crutches or a scooter (but are still able to walk a short distance) and may be at risk for falling.

Discussion, exercise, and group and individual activities will help participants learn about: fall risks, tips and strategies to reduce risk for falling, and exercises to enhance balance and safety. A supportive group atmosphere and expert instructors in the field of rehabilitation, health and wellness will help each participant develop a personal plan to maximize safety.

Through this course, participants will:

  • Increase awareness of the risk factors that contribute to falls.
  • Identify strategies to prevent falls
  • Develop a home fitness plan to address balance, endurance, and strength
  • Increase their confidence in managing falls if they do occur.
  • Identify additional community resources

Eligibility: Person with MS who is at risk of falls and the most likely to benefit from the program; those experiencing moderate mobility impairment, significant walking challenges, utilizing a mobility device such as a cane, walker or wheelchair/scooter, but are capable of independently transferring, standing and walking a few steps or short distances.
