Researchers in the Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science at the University of Vermont are interested in exploring how resiliency differs between individuals with and without multiple sclerosis (MS) and how specific resiliency factors influence health outcomes. You are invited to participate in this research study involving a survey because you are an adult with MS.
Resiliency is defined as the ability to overcome or rebound from difficult emotional experiences or adversity. The chronic and progressive symptoms associated with MS often present significant challenges to daily activities and community participation. Appreciating how and why individuals with and without the disease differ in terms of their resiliency may help health practitioners develop targeted interventions aimed at increasing resiliency and improving quality of life in those with MS.
You are being asked to complete several questionnaires pertaining to your resilience and overall well -being via an on-line survey.
The survey should take you approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. Your participation is completely voluntary.
All information obtained through the survey will be treated as confidential with your right to privacy assured. All data will be analyzed and referred to with a code number that will be known only to the investigators and stored securely throughout the course of the study. The survey and your responses will be deleted after completion of the study.
Your participation in this study is voluntary and there are no personal risks associated with your participation in this study. Your consent to participate is implied once you complete the survey. Any questions concerning the research or your participation should be directed to Susan L. Kasser, Ph.D. Department of Rehabilitation and Movement Science, University of Vermont, Burlington, VT 05405, (802) 656-7742 or Susan.Kasser@uvm.edu.
If you have any questions about your rights as a participant in a research project you should contact Nancy Stalnaker, the Director of the Research Protections Office, at the University of Vermont at 802-656-5040.
We sincerely appreciate your consideration to participate.
