Join the Movement. Get involved.

Volunteers across the country contribute resources, time, knowledge, skills and leadership that infuse the organization with energy and passion that will move us closer to achieving a world free of MS.

Individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and mobility levels volunteer their time to fulfill a defined responsibility in support of the mission and help others. Volunteers are involved in everything, from helping with mailings, fundraising events, to participating on committees and boards. You can work from home, via phone or internet, in an office or at events.

If you have the desire to get involved and be part of making a positive difference, consider volunteering with the Michigan Chapter. We have a wide variety of flexible opportunities, both short-term and ongoing. Use your skills to:

ABOUT VOLUNTEERING!

Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What should I expect when volunteering at the chapter?

A. Volunteers are given a position description, orientation, and on-going training. All volunteers work directly with trained staff to ensure that their assignments are compatible with their interests, skills and availability.

Q. Can I complete community service hours for my school/service organization through the National MS Society?

A. Yes, there are a number of opportunities throughout the year for you to help. Spread the news to your friends and co-workers – we have opportunities for everyone! To learn more, please contact Abby Higgins at Abigail.Higgins@nmss.org or 248-936-0363.

Q. Can my school/community service group “adopt” the National MS Society?

A. Yes, every year the Society needs assistance before, during and after its special events. There are also opportunities for direct interaction with people living with MS at programs held throughout the year. If your group is interested in raising money for the National MS Society, please contact Abby Higgins at Abigail.Higgins@nmss.org or 248-936-0363.

Q. The organization I work for/belong to has a “community day” during which employees/members spend an entire day working on behalf of a community service project. Is there a way to include the Society in this community day?

A. Yes, the Society has many opportunities for groups who wish to donate volunteer time. Quite frequently there are major office tasks that require the assistance of a large number of volunteers. In addition, we need groups to help with tasks outside the confines of our office. Whatever time you have – we will accommodate you! For more information, please contact Abby Higgins at Abigail.Higgins@nmss.org or 248-936-0363.

Q. Do I have to volunteer a set number of hours? Is there a time limit on the number of hours I can volunteer?

A. There are no set hours. We can work around your schedule. Opportunities exist during the week and on weekends. For more information, please contact Abby Higgins at Abigail.Higgins@nmss.org or 248-936-0363.

 Q. How do I learn about volunteering on a steering committee?
