Why did you decide to participate in Walk MS?
I was diagnosed in April 2007, and Walk MS was in May so, why not start supporting the cause right away?
What’s your favorite thing about Walk MS?
Getting all my friends and family together to support Team Rachel and the National MS Society.
How many years have you participated in the event?
This will be my eighth year supporting Team Rachel!
Are you involved in the National MS Society in other ways besides Walk MS?
I attend a monthly MS support group here in Mankato the second Thursday of every month at Hosanna Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. Also, I have been wanting to get involved with MuckFest™ MS!
What are a few things you wish people understood about multiple sclerosis?
Even though someone has MS, it doesn’t mean they're “disabled.” You cannot even tell I have MS! I can still live my life to the fullest, and I intend on doing that!
What’s the most important, meaningful or memorable connection you have made since being diagnosed with MS or having someone close to you diagnosed?
I have gained lifelong friendships while talking and sharing stories with others who have MS.
What makes you a great Walk MS Ambassador?
I am someone who works in the public, and I am a very outgoing person. Also, I want to show people that having the diagnosis of MS doesn’t mean that you cannot live a normal life! In the past seven years, bringing our community, friends and family together, Team Rachel has raised $17,747 for the Society.
What makes your MS story unique?
I was diagnosed at the young age of 18. I continue to educate people and to learn more about the disease. Every year, I gather friends and family to participate walking for Team Rachel!
