Community Connections Volunteers
You know your community needs better than anyone else. Who better to create a program for those affected by MS in your area than you? Create opportunities to educate and connect in ways that are important to you. Community Connections Volunteers provide MS education, resources and opportunities for social activity. Invest your ideas and time on planning and leading a one-time program to make a meaningful impact. It places our mission in your hands to carry out as you see fit. You can help build a strong, informed community moving us all closer to a world free of MS.
Volunteers who would like to initiate their own program receive training resources from the National MS Society, guidance to bring an idea to action, basic marketing support, and tools to measure the success of the program. Society staff is available to collaborate and provide you with support and tools to make it happen.
What is a Community Connections Volunteer?
Community Connections Volunteers educate and/or connect. Teach people about MS, symptom management, up-to-date research and tools for living with the disease. Connect people to others affected by MS, their community and to resources and services available through the Society.
Examples of a Community Connections Volunteer
• A family picnic or ice cream social at a local park
• A research symposium, at which a medical professional presents the latest developments in MS research or clinical trials
• A couples social, where couples affected by MS can gather to spend time together and connect with others
• A workshop on a topic like estate planning or employment issues
A Community Connections Volunteer serves as the program coordinator with the support of other volunteers and Society staff to plan and lead programs pertaining to those affected by MS. The Community Connections Volunteer is responsible for developing the program’s vision and plan, implementing the plan, delivering the program and facilitating the evaluation process.
