    Bike MS Volunteer Opportunities

    Bike MS: East End Ride Volunteer Opportunities
    Sunday, September 13, 2015 
    Southampton, NY 

    SET- UP CREW:
    Arrive by 6:00 a.m. to set-up tables, chairs, signage, displays, etc. Bring work gloves! (Lifting required)

    REGISTRATION:
    Join us bright and early Saturday morning at the Elks Lodge in Southampton and greet our cyclists, collect their pledge forms and donations. Arrival time: 7:00 a.m.

    SAG (Support & Gear Vehicle):
    SAG drivers patrol the route providing assistance to ensure cyclist safety and assist in case of fatigue or bike breakdowns (must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver's license and insurance). Arrival time: 8:00 a.m.

    BIKE MECHANIC:
    Help cyclists prepare for the ride and visit rest stops throughout the route to provide assistance as needed. (Please provide own tools, small repair kit provided) Arrival time: 8:00 a.m.

    RIDING MARSHALS:
    To help ensure cyclist safety and route efficiency, riding marshals will lead/sweep the route (basic bike repair skills needed). Arrival time: 8:00 a.m.

    HAM RADIO OPERATORS:
    Licensed Amateur Radio Operators provide communication throughout the entire tour. They are responsible for communicating questions, updates and problems to key staff members. Arrival time: 8:00 a.m.

    REST STOP SUPPORT:
    Volunteers will set up the rest stop area, distribute food and beverages to the riders and monitor the activities at the stop. All of the Bike MS rest stops are encouraged to have a theme (luau, 50's aquatic, etc.) get a group of people together and make your rest stop a fun place to be. Arrival time: 8:30 a.m.

    FINISH LINE GREETER:
    Volunteers will cheer riders on as they cross the finish line and hand out finish line medals. Arrival time: 10:30 a.m.

    CLEAN-UP CREW:
    Move barricades, take down signs, pack event trucks and more. Please note heavy lifting (20-50 lbs) is required. Arrival time: 10:30 a.m.

    ENTERTAINMENT:
    Face Painting, cheerleading teams, clowns, etc....

    MASSAGE THERAPIST:
    Licensed Massage Therapists provide massages for cyclists at the finish line. Arrival time: 10:30 a.m.

    Walk MS Volunteer

    Walk MS: Long Island presented by Zwanger-Persiri Radiology
    Sunday, May 3,  2015 at Belmont Lake State Park
    Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Jones Beach, Field 5 

    The success of Walk MS is directly related to the wonderful volunteers who make this event possible. 

    VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS:

    5K VOLUNTEER TEAM AT JONES BEACH:
    Ideal volunteers have experience running a 5K. Volunteers will set up the 5K run, cheer runners on, and distribute water at the half way point rest stop. Arrival time: 6:00 a.m.

    SET-UP:
    Arrive by 6:30 a.m. to set-up tables, chairs, signage, displays, etc. Bring work gloves! (Lifting required)
     
    REGISTRATION VOLUNTEERS:
    Arrive by 7:30 a.m. to greet, meet, sign-in walkers, collect pledges, forms and distribute t-shirts.

    REGISTRATION GREETERS:
    Ensure the registration process runs smoothly effectively by directing participants to the correct registration tent and going through the registration lines to make sure everyone has properly filled out their materials. Arrival time: 7:30 a.m.

    ROUTE MARKERS:
    Volunteers place signs along the route the morning of the walk. All route markers will be trained and given the necessary supplies. Arrival time: 7:30 a.m.

    ROUTE MONITORS AND MARSHALS (HAM RADIO OPERATORS):
    Provide support, safety and direction to walkers along the route. Route Monitors will also be responsible for removing the route signs after the event concludes. Arrival time: 8:30 a.m.

    PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC DIRECTORS:
    Volunteers great walkers when they arrive and direct them to their destinations. Arrival time: 8:00 a.m.

    PROGRAMS AMBASSADORS:
    Distribute information about MS and the programs/services the chapter provides. Arrival time: 8:00 a.m.
     
    REST STOPS:
    Volunteers are at rest stops along the route to distribute water and cheer on walkers. Assist with set-up and clean-up as necessary. Arrival time: 9:00 a.m.

    WHY I WALK:
    Distribute items needed to make personal “This Is Why I Walk” signs for the participants to wear. Arrival time: 8:00 a.m.

    TENT OF HOPE:
    Sell MS Bracelets, Bears, Magnets, Towels, Hats and MORE. Arrival time: 8:00 a.m.

    TEAM/EVENT PHOTOS:
    Take photos of teams participating in the walk, as well as general photos of the event. Arrival time: 8:00 a.m.

    FINISH LINE GREETER:
    Cheer walkers as they cross the finish line. Distribute water, snacks and medals to event participants and thank them for participating (great for scout troops). Arrival time: 9:30 a.m.
