New York City moves to increase the number of accessible taxis on the street
The New York City Council has increased the Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE) from $29,000 to $50,000. DRIE freezes rents for residents with disabilities who are living in rent-regulated housing with annual incomes of $50,000 or less and who pay one third or more of their income in rent. DRIE is similar to the Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) program which received the same increase earlier this year.
