The New York MS CAN supports the Governors Article VII bill addressing Out of Network Coverage. Surprise out of network bills received by consumers when individuals receive services without adequate notice of a provider’s network status puts a great burden on consumers. The Governor’s bill addresses this issue through provider/insurer arbitration process that takes the consumer out of the middle.
The bill also addresses limited access to out of network specialists by expanding network adequacy requirements for all insurance products sold both in and out of the New York State of Health Marketplace and rules guaranteeing access to out of network specialists at no additional cost when no adequate provider can be found in-network. This will help consumer access the specialists they require. This is especially important for people with multiple sclerosis.
