Stephen E. Markovich, MD will receive the Norman Cohn Hope Award, the most prestigious National MS Society award. An honoree exhibits vision and commitment to leadership, philanthropy and community service.
Stephen E. Markovich, MD, is the president of OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, the largest hospital in the OhioHealth system. In this role, he guides the operations and strategic development for the hospital.
Dr. Markovich has served as both a physician and an administrator for Riverside Methodist since 1996. After earning a doctor of medicine degree, magna cum laude, from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, he completed his residency in Family Medicine at Riverside Methodist. Dr. Markovich has practiced as a family and emergency physician at Riverside Methodist and has served as clinical assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine at The Ohio State University.
In addition to his career in medicine, Dr. Markovich has a laudable military career. He is a Brigadier General in the Ohio Air National Guard where he currently serves as the Chief of Staff. He focuses on strategic planning, force development and the development of future missions. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Ohio Air National Guard’s senior medical officer, integrating state and national Air Guard leadership with all medical units within the state. With an extensive military background, Dr. Markovich has logged over 2,000 flying hours as a fighter pilot and has led the development of the medical disasters in the State of Ohio.
Dr. Markovich is also a teacher, author and national speaker. He is active on several boards, including the Simon Kenton Council, Boy Scouts of America. In addition, he is a diplomat in the American Board of Family Practice and is a member of the American College of Physician Executives.
Dr. Markovich earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in business administration for Wright State University in Dayton. He lives in Dublin, Ohio, with his wife and three children.
