An admitted “Mama’s boy,” Deavean Rodriguez wears this badge with pride. Even though his mother uses a power chair due to her MS, “she’s kept me going by showing me that no menial reason is an excuse to give up on one’s self,” he says. “I guess you could say our family foundation rests on wheels.” After graduating from Sinton High School, Deavean plans to get his Bachelor’s in economics, and he will start that journey at Texas State University. He hopes to eventually go to law school at the University of Chicago. The ingenuity and “perseverance in the face of adversity” Deavean’s mother has shown while living with multiple sclerosis has equipped her son with vital principles on how to approach life’s curveballs.
