For more than half her life, Erica Lopez has watched her father struggle with MS. Although the disease sometimes leaves her dad exhausted, Erica admits the difficult times have made her family stronger as a whole. While her time in school at Randall High School in Amarillo led her to accomplish plenty academically and as the color guard captain, Erica has her eyes on a new goal. “I feel that I can help those who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis who have lost a form of their sight fighting this disease,” she says. “My dad inspired me when he was having trouble with his vision, only being capable of viewing in gray, green, and black, all from his MS.” Erica now plans on becoming an ophthalmologist after attending the University of Dallas.
