Twelve years ago, Geneva Johnson became a sister again when her mother Joyell brought home her eleventh and final baby. It was also the year her mother was diagnosed with MS. “Throughout her life, she became weaker and stronger,” Geneva says of her mother. “Weaker, meaning her physical body began to give out on her; stronger, meaning as a mother she kept her head high and kept striving for her children.” While much of Geneva’s time has been spent participating in basketball, choir, and track, this Rockwall-Heath High School graduate has also spent many weeks of her childhood taking care of her younger siblings during the times her mother was in the hospital. Her goal is to become a pharmacist after attending Collin College where she will get her Associate’s Degree.
