Joshua Martin, whose mother lives with multiple sclerosis, did not realize that he would learn so many life lessons next to a hospital bed. “There were times I thought I would never see my mother again,” recalls Joshua. “But she always gave me the best advice while she was in the hospital bed.” His mother has stayed optimistic throughout her struggle, believing that no disease can take away feelings such as joy and love. “The only medicine that doesn’t cost anything, can cure all, and can be given to everyone is love,” is a quote by his mother that will stick with him throughout his entire life. As a result, Joshua strives to be a better person and continuously help others. With the majority of his family in law enforcement, he became attracted to the field and will use his scholarship to study criminal justice at Texas State University in San Marcos in order to serve the public.
