From a young age, Joy Coffield knew she wanted her career to be in the veterinary field. In fact, as a student at George Bush High School in Richmond, Joy focused her time on FFA and volunteered with the Houston Zoo and the SPCA. But when she was home, she focused her time on her family. With her mother diagnosed with MS in 2004 and her father in a serious car wreck in 2008, Joy found herself keeping her family’s needs in mind. Now, as she attends Tarleton A&M University to gain her Bachelor’s in animal science, Joy hopes to not only meet her family’s needs, but also her and her mother’s dreams. “I want to make her proud and prove to her that even though she has physical limitations, it was her love and support that really mattered,” Joy says.
