Richard looks forward to pursuing an engineering degree at Texas State University in San Marcos in 2016. He knows he will have to work hard, but is no stranger to juggling multiple responsibilities. At a young age, Richard found himself launched into a significant role in his household when his mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He learned to provide for his mom and two sisters in many ways, including cooking and maintaining their home, all while playing four years of varsity baseball and earning an impressive GPA in high school. Richard began volunteering at National MS Society events and witnessed the impact the disease can have on mobility. His experiences volunteering and assisting his mother are driving Richard to obtain his engineering degree. “It’s my goal to find solutions,” says Richard. “If I can do anything with my life, I will improve mobility for people living with MS.”
