Symptom: Sensation of spinning or whirling that may be associated with nausea

Vertigo may be caused by inflammation or damage in the brainstem or vestibular system

Treatment

Interventions:

  • Referral to OT for vestibular rehabilitation

Medications: 

  • Meclizine; benzodiazepines; IV fluids and high-dose corticosteroids if nausea prevents the use of oral medications

Psychosocial Implication

  • Vertigo interferes with functioning at home and at work
