Who should attend: Physicians (Neurologists, Physiatrists), physical therapist, occupational therapists, rehabilitation scientists, nurses, and physician assistants working in the area of multiple sclerosis clinical practice or research.
This conference focuses on the role of cognitive dysfunction on postural control, mobility problems, and accidental falls in persons with multiple sclerosis. The morning session will discuss assessment of cognition and cognitive-motor interference during balance and mobility tasks, and the mechanisms, underlying cognitive-motor interference. The afternoon sessions will discuss evidence for cognitive dysfunction affecting motor performance, identify gaps in knowledge, and present strategies to address cognitive-motor interference as it contributes to gait and balance dysfunction in persons with MS.
After attending this symposium, attendees will be able to:
Describe and discuss the minimal recommended cognitive assessment in persons with MS.
Describe and discuss the mechanisms underlying cognitive-motor interference.
Describe and discuss methods for assessing cognitive-motor interference as it affects gait and balance.
Describe and discuss the evidence for and gaps in knowledge regarding cognitive motor interference in persons with MS.
Identify strategies to reduce the impact of cognitive-motor interference in persons with MS.
