Overview

MS is a chronic, unpredictable disease that can have a significant impact on people’s functional abilities, physical and emotional well-being, and quality of life. Comprehensive MS care involves the expertise of many different healthcare professionals — each contributing in a unique way to the management of the disease and the symptoms it can cause.

This approach benefits healthcare professionals and their patients, whether it occurs in an MS comprehensive care center or through active communication and collaboration among clinicians in the community. The goal is comprehensive, coordinated care to manage the disease and promote comfort, function, independence, health and wellness. Only by sharing expertise in a coordinated and collaborative manner, can the complex needs of individuals with MS and their families be met (Consortium of MS Centers Comprehensive Care in MS White Paper, 2010). Over the course of the disease, the MS care team – with the person with MS at its center – may need to include:

National MS Society Partners in MS Care program

Partners in MS Care are healthcare providers who have demonstrated knowledge and expertise in treating patients with MS. These providers have a relationship with the National MS Society that helps connect their patients to the information, resources and support available to them live their best lives with MS. 

The National MS Society’s Partners in MS Care program includes a variety of health care providers and Centers for Comprehensive Care that provide coordinated multi-disciplinary MS care.
