New Jersey Metro

Thirty-nine years ago, licensed physical therapist, Ruth Cowan, recognized the need for aquatic therapy for people living with MS, so she co-founded the Swim-In program in New Jersey. Ruth has since volunteered more than 3,000 hours. Swim-In is a free, once-a-week therapeutic swimming program where people with MS exercise and socialize. Swim-In has had an incredible impact on so many lives; through the years both swimmers and volunteers – many recruited by Ruth – have shared positive experiences and supported one another. This past year, Ruth relocated to Texas to be near her family, yet came back to visit the program and continued to lend her experience as a consultant.
