Actor, director, and producer Bill Pullman has been a National MS Society Ambassador for many years. Coast to coast, Pullman has been an active participant in Society events. A regular at the Society's Southern California Chapter's Dinner of Champions and frequent participant in Walk MS events, he knows that his celebrity status brings attention to the cause. In an interview with About.com's Fred Topel, Pullman said, "I think that there are probably people who wouldn't look at a brochure, who wouldn't stop at a newspaper article unless there's some pictures of a bunch of celebrities yuckin' it up in Hollywood. So we're hoping maybe something like that comes out of this." He also uses his celebrity status to speak out on behalf of the cause on national and local television and radio programs.

Pullman has also lent his formidable acting talent to help the Society. In December 2004 he, along with the Aquila Theater Company in New York City, donated all of the proceeds of the ticket sales of the reading of Oedipus At Colonus to the Society.

Pullman's drive to find a cure for MS comes from his love for his friends. In USA Today Pullman revealed, "I was inspired to be the National MS Society spokesman because several friends have multiple sclerosis. One friend in particular, the wife of a college friend, has MS. She was diagnosed decades ago and I have been following her illness. I guess I thought she was going to get better until I realized it was a chronic disease."
