Phenytoin is one of a group of hydantoin anticonvulsants that are used most commonly in the management of seizures in epilepsy. It is used in MS to manage painful sensations (dysesthesias) -- most commonly trigeminal neuralgia -- caused by demyelination in the sensory pathways in the brain and spinal cord.
