How Your Dollars Help
With your help, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s All America Chapter assists more than 27,000 people living with MS. Your support has a profound, positive effect on the lives of thousands of men, women and children affected by multiple sclerosis.
The All America Chapter is boldly committed to raising monies that will fund research and direct care efforts that ensure the highest quality of life for each person living with multiple sclerosis. Our Priority Funding Areas are:
RESEARCH
Research in MS is progressing at a remarkable rate, with more potential therapies in the pipeline than at any other time in history. With your support, the National MS Society will remain a driving force of MS research, supporting and stimulating world-class research into ways to prevent, improve treatment and cure this unpredictable disease of the brain and spinal cord.
Promise: 2010
The Society's targeted research campaign which seeks to raise at least $30 million to support four vital, underexplored areas:
> The Nervous System Repair and Protection Initiative: Repairing and protecting the nervous system
> Pediatric MS Centers of Excellence: Helping young people with MS
> The Sonya Slifka MS Longitudinal Study: Tracking long-term impacts of MS on quality of life
> The MS Lesion Project: Mapping out patterns of MS damage to develop better treatments
Fast Forward
Fast Forward is a new initiative working to accelerate the drug development process and bring more people with MS more effective treatments, faster. Your support will help ease the high costs of drug development and move promising ideas from the lab to clinical trial.
SCHOLARSHIP
MS shouldn’t stand in the way of an education. This is why the National MS Society's scholarship program exists — to help highly qualified students who have been diagnosed with MS or who have a parent with MS achieve their dreams of going to college.
The Society established its scholarship program in 2003 and the program continues to grow both in terms of support and scholarships awarded. Since 2007, the All America Chapter has awarded 19 student scholarships totaling $71,000.
ENHANCED FAMILY SUPPORT
Living with MS means the road to wellness is more than treatment of the disease. Equally important are health and wellness strategies, a strong support network of family and friends, satisfying work and leisure activities, a meaningful place in the community, and adequate attention to one's inner self. Your contribution can provide valuable programs and services for those living with and affected by multiple sclerosis in the All America Chapter.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
MS is an unpredictable disease that can cause unforeseen situations. During these times, financial assistance is available to help people with MS deal with both the anticipated and unanticipated circumstances. Whether it is to modify a house, make a car accessible or help with mobility equipment, the financial assistance program allows us to be there when there is a need. We can help fill temporary gaps that may occur because of the unduly long process to qualify for disability – in some cases, two years. Aligned with a comprehensive plan, the All America’s Financial Assistance Program provides a hand up for people living with MS, empowering them to take more control over their lives.
