James D. Power IV Joins Chapter Board of Trustees
The Southern California Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is pleased to announce that James “Jamey” D. Power IV has been elected to join its Board of Trustees. “MS has had such a profound impact on my family, and we are committed to demonstrating our support of the Society’s important programs and services, and the crucial research that’s taking place,” said Power.
In 1981, just as the family business J.D. Power and Associates was thriving, having set a gold-standard with surveys of customer satisfaction in the automotive industry, Jamey’s mother Julie was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). At the time, there were no treatments available to slow the course of this unpredictable, and often disabling, disease of the central nervous system. Sadly, the disease progressed rather quickly and Julie ultimately lost her hard fought battle against MS in 2002.
In 2005, the Power family sold J.D. Power and Associates to The McGraw-Hill Companies. This move created a new opportunity for Power, his father, and three siblings to focus more on philanthropic interests and honor Julie Power’s legacy.
Drawing on an extensive background in corporate and non-profit leadership, Power looks forward to his new role as a trustee and the ability to contribute valuable marketing and branding expertise. He said, “At my first job at a major advertising agency, I was indoctrinated with the importance of brand-building and how to do it the right way. I look forward to utilizing my marketing experience to create a stronger identity for the National MS Society.”
Jamey Power is the former senior vice president and strategic advisor at J.D. Power and Associates. He is currently exploring several new business ventures and philanthropic interests for the Power family. In addition, Power is working on a sequel to SATISFACTION: How Every Great Company Listens to the Voice of the Customer, a best-selling book he co-authored in 2006. In addition to his appointment serve on the National MS Society’s board of trustees, Power serves as vice-chairman of the board of regents of California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA, along with the alumni board at the University of San Diego, where he received a bachelor’s degree in history. Power and his family reside in the Conejo Valley area.
