Chapter’s Financial Aid Services Assistant
Description: The Chapter’s direct assistance program provides financial aid to hundreds of individuals each year. This position will help manage the administrative process including intake, review, and final approval of each applicant.
Skills needed: detail oriented, well organized, thorough, professional phone skills. Training provided.
Commitment: In West LA office; min. 2 full days, or 3-4 part time days within the hours of 9 am-7pm

Data Entry—MS Community Survey
Description: The Chapter is conducting a very important statewide survey to better understand the needs of the MS community. We are looking for individuals to enter data from the 35-item surveys that are returned to the chapter.
Skills needed: accurate, thorough, efficient, familiar with EXCEL or SPSS programs; prior data entry experience a plus but not necessary
Commitment: Project to start in April with targeted completion by May 1; in West LA office potential to work from home. Flexible schedule.

Volunteer Recruiter
Description: Contribute to the success of the National MS Society by recruiting and organizing the hundreds of people who want to do something about MS now!
Skills needed: Interest in non-profit and/or volunteer management; ability to work independently and take initiative.
Commitment: 2 hours a week minimum commitment. Can work from home or any of our 7 offices.

English/Spanish Translator
Description: The Chapter is in need of an individual to translate written material from English to Spanish.
Skills needed: Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish. Familiar with basic Microsoft Office programs.
Commitment: As needed basis. Work can be done from home in office.

Lending Library Aide
Description: Help in sending out library books, videos, and resource information to clients with MS.
Skills needed: Dependable, detail oriented, moderate multi-tasking, light computer work but easily trainable.
Commitment: In West LA Office- 1 full day a week, or 2 part time days, flexible but consistent.

Physical Fitness Resource Coordinator- Fresno
Description: Help to locate and organize a comprehensive list of fitness resources in our local community for those living with MS.
Skills needed: Professional phone skills, organized, comfortable with doing online research, and face-to-face site visits.
Commitment: At Home or In Fresno Office, depending on whether you have a fax machine. Self pacing but must be dependable.

Community Service Investigator
Description: Assist in identifying accurate and accessible resources for the National MS Society’s database referral list. The information about these resources will help the Society to alleviate certain obstacles confronted during activities of daily living for individuals, family members, and friends affected by multiple sclerosis.
Skills needed: Ability to represent the National MS Society in a professional manner,organized, effective verbal communication skills. Computer skills preferred.
Commitment: Initiate calls and meetings with local providers: 2-4 hours per month, Planning: 1-2 hours/month.

 Additional Ongoing Opportunities:

  • PEER COUNSELING Provide supportive phone counseling to people with MS. This can be done from home. Training provided.
  • NEWLY DIAGNOSED MENTORS provide those recently diagnosed with MS an opportunity to speak with a peer who can share their experiences and answer questions from a personal perspective. Training is provided and a one-year commitment is required.
  • MS ANGEL VISITORS Provide in-person visits to people with MS, in their homes or at skilled nursing facilities.
  • INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SPECIALIST Handle calls from clients and/or family members regarding information and education on MS, medical equipment, insurance and general referrals. Access to the chapter database and training is provided.
  • LENDING LIBRARY Catalogue and coordinate mailing of books, audio and video tapes to clients.
  • SPEAKERS BUREAU Speak to healthcare providers and other interested community groups about MS.
  • LINCS VOLUNTEER COUNSELORS LINCS (Linking Individuals in Need with Care and Services) volunteers are trained to counsel people with Medicare by phone from their own homes. LINCS is a program of The Medicare Rights Center. Learn more about LINCS Volunteers.
