Job Description

The National MS Society is looking for an energetic marketing go-getter to oversee all aspects of communications for the chapter. This job is approximately 50% marketing communications and PR / 50% graphic design / web layout. This position is located in our San Francisco office.

Email marketing

  • Work with staff members on development and programs teams to draft copy for email campaigns (typically 2 – 5 emails per week).
  • Lay out and send emails in Convio email application.
  • Manage email schedule and track effectiveness.

Web Marketing / Social Networking

  • Manage chapter website on content management system. Keep news feeds, home page and other content fresh. Review and approve individual department and staff website submissions.
  • Redesign Walk MS and Bike MS websites. Work with Bike and Walk team managers to develop content; lay out attractive, engaging and user-friendly web pages. Maintain and update pages.
  • Manage existing Facebook and Twitter pages and look for other Social Networking opportunities. Tweet and update Facebook pages on average 1 – 2 times per day.

Print Communications

  • Oversee development of quarterly MS Activities Calendar (16 pages). Work with programs team to secure content. Lay out in InDesign and manage all aspects of print production and mail house distribution.
  • Edit quarterly MS Connection newsletter (20 pages). Write 2 – 4 feature articles for newsletter. Assemble remaining articles by working with various teams (Development, Programs, and Advocacy) to draft articles and evaluating relevancy of stories provided by national office. Lay out in InDesign and manage all aspects of print production and mail house distribution.
  • Develop various flyers, guides, advertisements, etc.

PR / Brand Management

  • Serve as brand champion for the chapter and ensure that all communications adhere to national brand guidelines
  • Manage all PR for chapter. Write and send press releases and media alerts to journalists and follow-up with pitches.
  • Manage PSA placement.
  • Draft scripts for various events. Oversee media relations and photography at events.

Skills and Experience

  • 1 – 3 years work experience. This is an entry-level position with opportunity for a creative and motivated marketing person to demonstrate their skills and initiative.
  • BA required: Communications / Journalism / English major. Strong writing and editing skills are essential.
  • Must have a good eye for design and be very computer savvy. Ability to work with multiple online content management systems. Experience with Convio highly desirable. Must be proficient in Adobe Suite: InDesign, PhotoShop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver. Experience with press outreach. Basic understanding of HTML.
