We can help you get the emotional support you need. We offer professionally-led support groups with licensed therapists on a rotating basis in various communities across our Chapter. If there is not a chapter-affiliated counseling group in your area we can also provide you with referrals to community-based and professional counselors in your area.
The Northern California Chapter periodically offers a professional-led telephone counseling group as well. For more information on these programs, please contact Emotional Support Manager, Lisa Matejczuk at 415-230-6678 x 2004.
Peer Counseling
Your peers can also be a great source of support and you can reach out to them through connecting with a volunteer peer counselor or a chapter affiliated self-help group.
The Chapter’s peer counseling program provides emotional support from people who know what it’s like living with MS. Peer counselors are trained to speak about the disease to others with MS, to the families and friends of people with MS, and to the general public. They distribute MS information and provide referrals to resources throughout our chapter territory. This includes referrals to professional counselors. You can request peer support services through our toll-free hotline 1-800-FIGHT MS.
