North Star Community Receives Promotion of Excellence in Long-term Care
Colorado Chapter
February 6, 2009
North Star Community, a nursing home in Denver Colorado, has received the designation of Center for the Promotion of Excellence in Long-term Care by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society
This designation was established to recognize those community-based programs and facilities that see addressing the long-term care needs of people with MS as an integral part of their mission.
North Star joins seven other long-term care programs that have received this special designation— The Boston Home, Beechwood Home in Cincinnati, Fairview MS Achievement Center in Minnesota, Good Shepherd Long-term Care Facilities in Pennsylvania, Independence Care System of New York City, the Marilyn Hilton MS Achievement Center at UCLA, and Northwestern Healthcare Center in Cleveland.
Programs receiving this designation must serve a significant number of people with MS, be in good standing with accrediting agencies, demonstrate expertise in multiple sclerosis, have a good working relationship with their Society chapter, and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to serving the MS population. They are expected to engage in a range of activities to promote excellence, serving as laboratories to develop models of innovative care and providing leadership in the dissemination of best practices within their respective communities.
Chapters must recommend eligible long-term care programs for this designation. Applications are located on the intranet under Clinical Programs/ Long-term Care. A letter of support from the chapter is part of the application process. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by a sub-committee of the Society’s Long-term Care Committee.
