"Speed Volunteering" Event
Colorado Chapter
“Speed Volunteering” Event Highlights Opportunities with the
Colorado Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society
The Colorado Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society is hosting a unique volunteer rally from 5:30 -7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009 at the Mile High Station located at 2027 Old West Lower Colfax Ave. to showcase diverse opportunities for involvement and giving back.
In addition to a free casual dinner buffet and cash bar that begins at 5:30 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to experience “speed volunteering,” which is patterned after the popular ‘speed dating’ concept. Guests will be able to quickly visit up to six booths, each highlighting particular volunteer opportunities ranging from administrative support, to assistance with self-help groups, to planning and support of the Chapter’s signature events Bike MS, Walk MS or Women on the Move luncheon. Those who find an opportunity that matches their interest can sign up on the spot.
“This will be a fun way for people to quickly learn about many of the diverse volunteer opportunities that the Colorado Chapter offers,” said Jaclyn Wilmot, volunteer manager. “Colorado has one of the highest incidences of MS in the nation and volunteers are critical in helping the Chapter enhance the lives of the 72,000 Coloradans affected by MS.”
“We have developed many flexible opportunities to meet the schedules of people who are interested in volunteering. In 2008, more than 1,400 volunteers contributed nearly 31,000 hours of time and we are extremely grateful for such strong community support. People who volunteer to help the MS community find the experience meaningful and rewarding,” she said. “And there’s the added benefit of expanding their network and creating new friendships. The Chapter also holds several volunteer recognition events throughout each year to recognize and thank those who share their valuable time and talents,” she added.
To RSVP for the volunteer rally, call Jaclyn Wilmot at 303-698-5444 or email Jaclyn.wilmot@nmss.org by February 20, 2009. Registrants are invited to bring friends. For additional information about the Colorado Chapter’s volunteer program, visit www.cureMScolorado.org.
