It is vitally important that the MS community maintain a strong voice and be heard by elected officials, who develop policies and determine funding. Did you know that recent MS advocacy efforts:
- resulted in a petition being signed by more than 100,000 people to increase federal funding for MS research?
- led to the revision of a potentially damaging Medicare policy on coverage of power mobility?
- helped to pass stem cell legislation in both the House and Senate?
To foster successes such as these, you need to be involved.
You don’t have to be a professional to help to shape policies and program that impact the MS community.. It only takes your passion and commitment. You can be a MS Activist and here are several ways to stay informed on MS issues:
- follow and contribute to the MS Activist Blog, track legislation, and know your national senators and representatives as well as your state legislators are, so you can easily respond to Chapter calls-to action.
