The host of Good Morning Connecticut on WTNH News Channel 8, Velardi will host this year’s MS Taste of Hope, Fairfield County, Thursday, Sept. 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Aitoro kitchen showroom in Norwalk.

Velardi is known best as the Good Morning Connecticut host on Saturday and Sunday mornings. A Branford native, Velardi returned to Connecticut and WTNH News Channel 8 in June 2000. During the week, he can be seen on the station’s weekday coverage as a reporter.

Before joining WTNH News Channel 8, Velardi worked as a reporter and anchor at stations in Allentown, Pa., and Ithaca, N.Y., and as a news reporter for several radio stations. Velardi, who graduated from Syracuse University, began his journalism career in his hometown as a sports reporter for the Branford Review.

The location for the 2009 MS Taste of Hope, Fairfield County will provide an exciting experience for guests. Aitoro’s unique setting features several working kitchen showrooms, which will allow guests to sip fine wine while watching Fairfield County’s top chefs prepare their signature dishes.

The list of restaurants previously confirmed for the event includes Capital Grille in Stamford, Coromandel in Norwalk, Morello Bistro in Greenwich and Meigas in Norwalk. New restaurants recently added to the event include Burger Bar & Bistro in Norwalk, Columbus Park in Stamford and Marly’s of Wilton.

Moet Hennessey USA, Ola! Foods, Olde Burnside Brewing and Stoli Vodka have also partnered to provide food and wine for the event. Guests will be treated to a wine and spirit tasting, live cooking demonstrations and a live and silent auction.

“The Aitoro showroom is a fantastic showcase for Fairfield Country’s best restaurants,” said Carrie Levitt, development manager for the Connecticut Chapter. “We are excited to have more than a dozen restaurants involved with the MS Taste of Hope. It will be a great evening of sumptuous food and exquisite wine in a tremendous atmosphere.”

More than 6,000 Connecticut residents are affected by multiple sclerosis, a potentially debilitating disease affecting the central nervous system. The cause is unknown and, as a result, there is currently no cure for MS. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot be predicted.

Funds raised by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter, through events, such as MS Taste of Hope, ensure ongoing scientific research to find better treatments and a cure, as well as to provide vital programs and services offered by the chapter to those in the state living with multiple sclerosis.

MS Taste of Hope will take place at Aitoro, 401 Westport Ave., in Norwalk Thursday, Sept. 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person in advance and $65 at the door.
