Welcome to our special volunteers-only section for Walk MS! This site features volunteer positions listed below available as well as some important frequently asked questions related to volunteering at the Walk MS event.

Volunteer Job Descriptions

Event Set-up: Aids with any set-up such as tables, chairs, signs, food, trash barrels, supplies, and any items specific to that area.

  • Time commitment: Early Morning setup, usually around 6 a.m.

Event Clean-up: Aids with any clean-up such as folding tables, stacking chairs, tearing down tents, redistributing and reloading leftover supplies into trucks, cleaning and trash removal specific to that area.

  • Time commitment: half-day starting in the afternoon

Registration Area: Collect participant donation envelopes, hand out lunch wristbands, route cards and prize certificates as needed. Direct participants to the prize table (as needed) or start line area.

  • Time commitment: half-day starting in the morning.

Prize Table: Collect prize certificates from participants, hand out T-shirts, answer prize related questions and direct the participants to the start line.

  • Time commitment: half -day starting in the morning.

Food Serving/Lunch: Monitor food line, check meal wristbands, serve food and beverages to participants and volunteers, replenish supplies as needed, and keep area clean of trash and debris.

  • Time commitment: half-day starting in the afternoon.

Parking: Direct participants and volunteers to appropriate parking lots upon arrival.

  • Time commitment: half-day starting in the morning.

Finish Line: Responsible for welcoming the walkers and cheering them on to make them feel special for having completed the walk MS.

  • Time commitment: half-day starting in the afternoon.

Floater: Will be able to fill in for any of the positions at the walk site of your choice. Will be relief for the assigned volunteers and is positioned by a staff member.

  • Time commitment: half or full day starting in the morning.

Rest Stops: Help set-up and teardown assigned rest stop. Must stay until the rest stop closes. Re-stock food and water as needed. Maintain communication contact with safety personnel and SAG drivers.

  • Time commitment: full day starting in the morning.

Medical Personnel: Provide first aid and first response services under the direction of the safety coordinator. Medical personnel must possess a valid CPR certificate and be certified as a FR, EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-P, RN, LPN, PA or MD.

  • Time commitment: full day starting in the morning.

HAM Radio Operator: Provide communications to aid in the safety and welfare of all participants. Volunteers should have their own radio equipment with enough backup batteries to last the entire day. Responsible for closing all rest stops when appropriate.

  • Time commitment: full day starting in the morning.

b Rides own motorcycle to patrol the route. Maintain radio communications with safety and support personnel.

  • Time commitment: full day starting in the morning.
