College Scholarships

MS shouldn't stand in the way of an education.  This is why the National MS Society's scholarship program exists: to help highly qualified students  who have been diagnosed with MS, high school seniors who have a parent with MS, and adults living with MS who will be attending an accredited post-secondary institution for the first time.

The 2010 Scholarship Program opens October 1, 2009, and closes January 15th, 2010.

2009 Scholarship Recipients

FLC_Julia Allen Scholarship 09 Recipient

"I will dedicate everything to my mom. Nothing is going to get in my way.

I am determined to help people - it’s my passion.”

Julia Allen, Oldsmar
University of South Florida

Ever since her mom’s diagnosis a year ago, Julia has learned as much as possible about MS.

Her fascination with the disease has prompted her to go into the medical field. She would like to help find a cure and/or make living more comfortable for MS patients, and says that having someone diagnosed with an illness in the family makes you want to find the cure faster.

Julia plans on contributing to her campus community and working to increase awareness about MS.

FLC_Kevin Moore Scholarship 2009

“Because of my mom, I attempt everything I do with an overachieving effort. MS has destroyed the most important person in my life.

My mother is the light of my life and I will succeed in everything for her.”

Kevin Moore, Valrico
Hillsborough Community College

MS began impacting Kevin’s life in negative and positive ways at age 8. At first his mother’s MS progressed slowly. Eventually the disease began taking away the mother he knew, yet he still sees her beautiful smile from time to time.

Whenever Kevin thinks of giving up, he remembers the fight his mother has in her. She never gives up and that multiplies his will to keep on going greatly.

FLC_Anthony Siciliano Scholarship 2009

"Sometimes I think what life would have been like if mom didn't get MS. We would not have learned to enjoy the little things, I would not appreciate everything my mom does and I would not have learned to cook.

MS has shown me that you can do anything you want to do. All you have to do is believe you can."

Anthony Siciliano, Hudson
Pinellas Pasco Community College

Anthony loves baseball. Baseball is his life, and he hopes to make a career out of it with his goal of becoming a general manager for a professional team. Anthony's mother is counting on him  to have the best life he can, and not let her down.

Anthony will never forget his mother's first MS exacerbation: he was five years old. It wasn't until years later that she was officially diagnosed.

Through it all, Anthony's mother never misses anything he does, even if she needs help getting to a game or activity.
