Take a Stand With Us!
The National MS Society is taking a stand in Washington to make sure we are at the discussion table when the health care reform meetings are taking place this summer in the 111th Congress.
Earlier this year, the NMSS released the National Health Care Reform Principles outlining seven major areas of interest the MS community wants Congress to remain aware of when reforming the current system. The principles are: access, affordability, standardization, eliminating disparities, comprehensive system, electronic records and long term care.
Click here for an overview of our health care reform principles, or click here for an in-depth look. Our Health Care Reform Glossary contains definitions and descriptions of some of the terms used in these documents as well.
We also want to share with you the availability to listen to a recording of a call about health care reform which was held on Monday, August 10, 2009. You may access this recording to hear about the key issues in health care reform legislation that will impact people with MS, and how each of us - as activists - can make a difference in supporting the Society's National Health Care Reform Principles.
To listen to the recorded version you may call the following number: (800) 642-1687, and the passcode for the call is: 21791514 The recording will be available through September 8.
Speakers on the call include:
* Joyce Nelson, MS Society President and CEO
* Weyman Johnson, Chairman of the Board
* Kim Love, Legislative Director for Senator Debbie Stabenow (MI):
* Lily Jung, MD, A member of the Society's Federal Activism Council
* Rob Engel, A member of the Society's Federal Activism Council
* Shawn O'Neail, Vice President, Federal Government Relations
If you feel that health care reform is one of your priorities too then we need your help in making sure our Florida Congressional delegation continues to hear from us. The Florida chapters of the MS Society are also working in conjunction with partner organizations with similar health care priorities to keep the momentum strong.
Please sign up for the NMSS Action Alert system at www.nationalmssociety.org/msactivist to stay abreast of the happenings.
