"Women on the Move” Lunch to Benefit National MS Society
--Comedian Anthony Griffith and Fine Jewelry Fashion Show Highlight the Event--
The North Florida Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society will hold its Women on the Move Luncheon on May 27, 2009 at the Garden Club of Jacksonville (1005 Riverside Avenue), announced Jennifer Lee, North Florida Chapter president.
According to Lee, this annual event (formerly known as “Women Against MS”) is a social, educational and fundraising opportunity for the Chapter. “Women on the Move is an event where friends—and friends of friends—come together to enjoy each other and learn more about how they can make a difference in the lives of people living with MS in Northeast Florida,” said Lee.
This year’s event will feature comedian Anthony Griffith, a funny, inspirational speaker who happens to have MS. Griffith has appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,” among others.
In addition, the luncheon will include a fashion show of the glittery sort—fine jewelry pieces from Miriam’s Jewelers. Luncheon attendees will model the jewelry, all of which will be available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the local MS Society chapter.
“The funds raised will support direct services for the more than 3,000 people with MS and their families on the First Coast as well as support national MS research to find a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system,” said Kathryn Redington, Vice President for Donor Development of the North Florida Chapter. “In addition to providing programs and information for the medical community and those living with MS, we also offer emergency support services to assist clients in crisis, whether it’s helping with utility bills, medical expenses or minor home improvements needed to accommodate wheelchairs or other durable equipment.”
Sponsors of this year’s Women on the Move Luncheon include Wachovia, Copytronics, Mitch Owens, Tom Petway, TEVA Pharmaceuticals ,Fickling Construction and Brooks Health
Tickets for the event are $40 each. Tables of 10 are available for $350. To register or for additional information click here or call (904) 332-6810.
