New Mission Statement for MS Society
National MS Society Releases New Mission Statement
We mobilize people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS.
New Mission Statement Introduced April 24, 2009
While many of you may be familiar with the Society’s previous mission statement, “To end the devastating effects of MS,” we want to highlight and introduce you to our new statement. The new mission statement gives staff, volunteers and everyone who is a part of the MS movement a clear and compelling way to talk about how we will achieve our vision of a world free of MS.
The Society’s new mission statement is: “We mobilize people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS.”
When the new Society branding platform was developed several years ago, it became clear that new vision and mission statements would help align our shared language with the learning and work we had done on the Society’s Strategic Response and the new brand platform. A team of Society staff and volunteers developed a vision statement, describing our vision for the future. We then engaged in a thoughtful and inclusive effort to develop an appropriate mission statement that reflected more detail about our strategic approach to achieve our shared vision, “A World Free of MS.”
In the summer of 2008, efforts to develop a new mission statement were initiated. These efforts included a core work team and several sub-teams consisting of home office and chapter staff representing every department of the organization, as well as volunteers and stakeholders from a variety of Society audiences. The process included numerous drafts, feedback sessions, focus groups and revisions. These efforts eventually resulted in the final statement, which was presented to and supported by the National Board of Directors in March. On April 24, 2009 the new mission statement was introduced.
You can help us accomplish our mission by joining the movement…and giving your time, expertise and resources…to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS.
