MOVING FORWARD TO A CURE - EVENT RAISES $400K FOR MS RESEARCH

 Joel

The 31st Annual Carol Cohn & Margie Weil Memorial MS Outing attracted more than 400 attendees for a day-long event that included 18-hole golf, bridge and poker tournament and dinner to benefit important research, programs and services for people living with multiple sclerosis and their families. Held at a prominent country club in Highland Park on Chicago's North Shore, this year’s event raised more than $400,000 and honored Burt Levy, publisher, North Shore Magazine. The guest speaker was Consultant and MS Activist Joni Mount.

The first Carol Cohn Invitation Golf Outing was held in August 1979 at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill. Chaired by Board Member June Golin and organized by John Pont and Robert Seebeck, the outing honored the wife of Norman Cohn, then president of the National MS Society and former chairman of the chapter. Mrs. Cohn, who had MS, was a regular attendee at the outing until her passing in 1988. The event’s name was changed to the Carol Cohn and Margie Weil Memorial MS Outing in 1998, after Mrs. Weil passed away after a long and stoic battle with MS.

The Cohn/Weil Memorial MS Outing was a fun-filled day with something for everyone -- serious competitors and casual golfers alike, card-players, auction-goers, social diners, friends and family members. Prizes and giveaways throughout the event added another level of excitement, including a chance to win an all-expense-paid golf experience to the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Championship in Maui, Hawaii, World Series tickets, David Letterman tickets, a Grammy Awards package and much more.
