The James Cantalupo Growth and Empowerment Camp is for youth entering 7th-10th grades by the Fall of the participation year. Camp takes place in mid-June at the beautiful Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Finland, Minnesota.
The Camp has generously been made possible in a second year through a partnership of the Greater Illinois and Minnesota chapters of the National MS Society and the Cantalupo family.
In 2009, the Greater Illinois Chapter is providing 8 families the opportunity to send their child to participate in our camp tailored to support young people who have a family member living with MS. Last year, these young adults responded to their camp experience with statements such as: “A stress free week and you can make friends that have something truly in common is the best thing about camp!“ and “Thanks for a great MS Camp! I’m already looking forward to next year already – can we make it two weeks instead of one?!“.
We hope to offer this program again next year. Please look for information in the mail regarding this collaborative effort to provide unique but still supportive experiences for our families’ children.
The late James Cantalupo, the former CEO of McDonald’s, had a sister with MS. Before he died, Cantalupo was a strong supporter of the National MS Society.
