The Living with MS program is a series of interactive and educational sessions covering topics such as symptom management, technology, research updates and more. The programs are hosted by the network of supportive groups throughout Illinois and feature presentations from expert neurologists or MS nurses, followed by ample time for questions and answers.

Past topics for the Living with MS series include:

  • Symptom Management (presented by Serono Pfizer) - Covered fatigue; the difference between symptoms and relapses; mind and mood dysfunction; spasticity; MS related pain; and how to manage your lifestyle, emotions, and working with your friends and family.
  • Closer to a Cure (presented by Biogen Idec) - Covered the status of research in 2005 and previewed coming MS therapies; also included pediatric research, the Sonya Slifka longitudinal study, nervous system repair and protection, and the MS lesion project.
  • Managing Worsening Symptoms of MS (presented by Serono and Medtronic) - Covered the different types of multiple sclerosis, available treatments, demographics, managing symptoms, and more.
  • Every Picture Tells a Story: MRIs and MS (presented by Teva Neuroscience) - Covered MRI technology and how it's used to diagnose and monitor the progression of MS; also touched on the role of MRI in research.
