Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance helps people with multiple sclerosis maintain independent living and improve their quality of life. Financial Assistance offers financial support for needed services that are not available using other resources such as private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid or other state/personal/community resources.

Who is eligible?
In order to receive one or more of these services, an applicant must:

  • Have a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis 
  • Be a member of the National MS Society, Greater Illinois Chapter (membership is free for individuals with MS)
  • Be eligible for financial assistance under the Greater Illinois Chapter’s guidelines 
  • Utilize other resources, like Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance PRIOR to any assistance from the Society.
  • Provide proof of denial for service(s) requested

Guidelines
Eligibility for financial assistance is reviewed case by case based on the application, which must demonstrate financial need. Documentation of income for all household members (W2 or Social Security Benefit letter) is required. Applicants must provide written detail of monthly expenses and be able to document those expenses.

  • Home Modifications
  • Incontinence Supplies
  • Transportation
  • Vehicle Modifications
  • Cooling Aides
  • Wellness Programs

Additional Information
The Greater Illinois Chapter will not reimburse for any services or goods obtained prior to submitting an application for financial assistance. Assistance is based on a sliding scale, and payment for services is made directly to the vendor.  The chapter will not pay for medications, diagnostic procedures, doctors’ office visits or any other expenses related directly to medical care.  

The Financial Assistance program is funded directly by private donations with services additionally provided through local and national collaborations.
